More rain and snow on the way

Another system will bring a mix of rain and snow to much of South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa later today, tonight and tomorrow. Unlike the system earlier this week, moisture amounts with this one will be fairly light. Liquid precip amounts of one to two-tenth of an inch are possible with snowfall of an inch or less in Sioux Falls… 1-2 inches is possible across parts of northeast South Dakota and western Minnesota. We might eek out 2-3 across the Sisseton hills and across southeastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota.

Before the rain and snow get here, it will be mild today. Temps will warm into the 40s this afternoon. Rain will develop across central and northern South Dakota by or shortly after noon. Amounts will be light… Probably not even worth the effort of lugging the umbrella to work.  Rain will mix with and eventually change to snow tonight as temps drop below freezing tonight. Scattered snow showers will continue through tomorrow. Wind will be a bit of an issue later tonight and tomorrow. Most of the snow will stick when it hits the ground, however, the wind could create visibility issues while snow is falling.

Friday and Saturday will br dry and cooler with more snow expected on Sunday and Monday. Snow and blowing snow is possible with this system. I’ll have more details as we get closer. For now, stay tuned… Especially if you have late weekend travel plans.
